Xabier Alonso Olano (Basque: [ˈʃaβi aˈlons̺o oˈlano], Spanish: [ˈʃaβj aˈlonso oˈlano]; born 25 November 1981) is a Spanish professional football manager and former player from Tolosa, Spain, who is currently the head coach of Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

That same year, long-time Bayer Leverkusen executive Reiner Calmund became the general manager of the club. The decade and a half following this saw club's greatest successes. After the German reunification in 1990, Reiner Calmund was quick to sign prominent East German players Ulf Kirsten , Andreas Thom and Jens Melzig .

Xabi Alonso took up the post of head coach at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in October 2022. Previously, the Spaniard was responsible for the second team at his home club Real Sociedad in San Sebastian, Basque Country, in the same role for over three years. More at Bayer 04!
