President Donald Trump has fired a Democratic commissioner for the federal agency that oversees nuclear safety as he continues to assert more control over independent regulatory agencies.

The dismissal came after President Trump signed several executive orders aimed at cutting safety regulations for nuclear power plants.

Donald Trump’s efforts to strip federal agencies and commissions of their independence took an alarming step Monday, when the president fired one of the five commissioners who sit on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
