Seventeen years after their first head-to-head matchup, Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer met for perhaps the last time in their storied careers on Friday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1.

When Kershaw joined the 3,000 strikeout club in July, he became the 20th player in MLB history to record that many strikeouts in his career. He followed Scherzer onto the list, as Scherzer was the 19th member of the club when he hit 3,000 strikeouts in 2021.

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw took on fellow future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer of the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night and earned the victory with help from Mookie Betts. Betts hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning and drove in another run in the three-run seventh to help the host Dodgers to a 5-1 victory in the opener of the three-game series.
