In desperate need of more swing-and-miss stuff among their starting pitching staff, the Cardinals jumped at the opportunity to select college baseball’s top strikeout artist in 2025.

With the No. 5 overall pick in the 2025 draft, the St. Louis Cardinals selected left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle out of the University of Tennessee.

Pitcher Liam Doyle was the first player selected as he was picked No. 5 by the St. Louis Cardinals, which made him the highest-drafted player under coach Tony Vitello.
