Update: Gifford Fire spreads to 83,933 acres in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County, now 9% contained
Gifford Fire initially started 3:44 p.m. Aug. 1 in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara County, California. Since its discovery four days ago, it has burned 72,460 acres. By Tuesday morning, the fire crew effectively contained 7% of this fire. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.
The nuclear power plant has reduced output from one of its units due its transmission lines’ proximity to the fire.
