The cause of the deadly fire at the Gabriel House assisted living home in Fall River, Massachusetts last week is still officially undetermined, but investigators have narrowed it down to two possibilities: smoking or the failure of a resident's oxygen device.

Resident Steven Oldrid alleged that he was “trapped in his room, suffered smoke inhalation, respiratory distress, and loss of consciousness” during the July 13 blaze.

A survivor of a deadly Fall River fire has filed a lawsuit against the owner of Gabriel House, saying the assisted living facility did not have emergency procedures in place when the fire happened.
