Gov. Jared Polis is dropping his plans to build a $29.5 million pedestrian bridge on the state Capitol’s grounds after Coloradans overwhelmingly rejected the proposal in a recent survey.

Gov. Jared Polis launched a survey last week to find out if people liked his idea for an $18 million pedestrian bridge outside the Colorado State Capitol Building. The Colorado 150 Walkway would have stretched 1,100 square feet from the capitol to Veterans Memorial Park.

The bridge was the governor’s idea to celebrate the state’s 150th anniversary. But it was panned by lawmakers, historic preservationists and, apparently, the public.
