The warning center runs the annual test each March as part of Tsunami Preparedness Week. It falls around the anniversary of the devastating tsunamis of the Great Alaska Earthquake of 1964.

The National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, issued a tsunami warning at 10:49 a.m., which extended north to the Douglas/Lane County border in Oregon and south to Davenport, California.
