The BFG tells the story of a young orphan named Sophie who befriends a giant and they embark on a mission together to stop other giants from eating children. The show is the first RSC stage adaptation of a Roald Dahl novel since Matilda the Musical in 2010.

Roald Dahl’s The BFG to be adapted for Royal Shakespeare Company festive show - Playwright Tom Wells will adapt the story about the Big Friendly Giant who captures an orphan named Sophie and brings her back to Giant Country.

Matilda has been performed in 100 cities across the globe since its premiere in Stratford in 2010. The multi-award winning musical is the RSC’s highest ever grossing production by far, and has been delighting audiences in London’s West End for over 13 years.

Roald Dahl’s The BFG, adapted by the RSC, will run at Chichester Festival Theatre from March 16 to April 12, 2026, following its Stratford-upon-Avon premiere.
