NBA legend Magic Johnson, Dodgers chairman Mark Walter and 2028 Olympics organizer Casey Wasserman will lead a new philanthropic effort to support wildfire recovery and rebuilding efforts in Los Angeles.

California governor Gavin Newsom has selected NBA legend and Dodgers part-owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Dodgers chairman Mark Walter and 2028 Summer Olympics organizer Casey Wasserman to lead a new initiative aimed at supporting wildfire recovery and rebuilding efforts in Los Angeles.

Magic Johnson, Dodgers chairman Mark Walter and Casey Wasserman are part of a group that has pledged nine figures to wildfire relief.

While most of the MLB world outside the Los Angeles area wasn't thrilled to learn of Sasaki's decision, Dodgers minority owner Magic Johnson certainly was excited. The Los Angeles Lakers legend welcomed Sasaki to Dodger Stadium by gifting him a signed No. 32 Magic Johnson jersey.

The private-sector initiative received a $100 million commitment from LA Dodgers Chairman Mark Walter, his family foundation and the LA Dodgers Foundation.

Governor Gavin Newsom, along with Dodger’s co-owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, were together Tuesday to launch L.A. Rises, an initiative aimed at helping victims and businesses that lost everything in the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires.

Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter, the Walter Family foundation, and the Dodgers foundation have donated $100 million to Southern California wildfire recovery and rebuilding.
