Clara Thomann, 33 slipped and fell hiking near the Preveli Monastery in Crete while on holiday with her partner

By all accounts, Clara Thomann was the high school teacher you wanted: young, vibrant, outdoorsy, real and, most of all, the kind that could take the difficult-to-parse world of physics and make it fun.

Thomann, who was six months pregnant, was pronounced dead just before the New Year after suffering multiple fractures to her chest and skull that rendered her brain dead.
