A train on a train at Gatwick Airport train station has led to passengers being evacuated, causing major disruption.

The operator’s website added that Gatwick Express services remain suspended with disruption expected to continue until 6pm. Firefighters were called in to deal with the “small fire”, which temporarily caused all services through the station to be suspended as passengers were evacuated into Gatwick’s South Terminal.

Commuters were evacuated from Gatwick Airport railway station due to a fire under a train on Monday. Images posted online showed black smoke billowing from a stationary carriage at a platform, as flames flickered under the vehicle.
