Like many EVs, BMW’s current crop of electrified vehicles uses dated prismatic battery technology, which is inefficient and cumbersome to build. With its sixth-generation batteries, BMW is set to take a leap forward.

The company recently revealed that it will begin mass production of its groundbreaking sixth-generation (Gen6) electric vehicle (EV) batteries in China by 2026. BMW is focusing on a new battery architecture that will utilize large cylindrical cells.

BMW is one of the strongest of German luxury car makers when it comes to selling EVs across the world. Powering its electric cars are Gen 5 batteries which maximises number of cells per module and are in a flat-form state.
