The vote by South Korea’s parliament to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol on Saturday marked the culmination of a stunning political showdown sparked by his shock decision to impose martial law on the vibrant democratic country.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached by parliament over his abortive attempt at martial law on December 3, 2024. However, a video that social media posts claimed shows his supporters rallying against the impeachment motion is unrelated.

Both indexes had rebounded strongly last week after initially falling after the martial law flip-flop and failed first impeachment vote.
