A rare tsunami warning was issued for part of Alaska’s coast after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck near Sand Point in the Aleutian Islands. A small tsunami wave was measured at Sand Point, Alaska.

The National Weather Service has lifted a tsunami advisory for communities on the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island after a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck about 55 miles south of Sand Point. The advisory was lifted at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday.

A major earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 has triggered a tsunami warning for the southern Alaska peninsula.
