A coalition of state attorneys general filed a lawsuit Monday challenging the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s demand for states to turn over personal data — including names, birthdates, and home addresses — for people who are enrolled in a federally funded food assistance program.

California, New York, and 19 other states, along with D.C., are suing the Trump administration over USDA rules requiring detailed personal data from SNAP recipients.
