Due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, the Academy is pushing back the announcement of 2025 Oscars nominations and extending the voting window to pick the nominees.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending its Oscar nomination voting and moved the date back for its nominations announcement from Friday, Jan. 17 to Sunday, Jan. 19 due to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that, out of consideration for the many members whose lives have been upended by this tragedy, the Academy will be extending the Oscar nomination voting window, which began at 9am PT on Wednesday morning and was to have ended at 5pm PT on Sunday evening,

Today marks the first day of voting for the 2025 Oscars, which means now is the time to make last-minute appeals to the Academy to please, please, please, please nominate I Saw the TV Glow for Best Picture. Or Best Actor. Or Best Screenplay. Or Best Director. Just, something!

The voting for nearly 10,000 Academy members, which opened on January 8 and was set to close on January 12, has been pushed by two days. More details below.

Oscar nominations voting week is usually a mad rush to the campaigning finish line. Due to the tragic fires engulfing Los Angeles—and the shutdowns that have followed—the Academy has just made an unprecedented decision.

In a letter to members Wednesday, film academy CEO Bill Kramer announced the postponement and offered condolences to those affected.
