Federal officials push to restrict kratom-derived opioid 7-OH

Federal officials promised on Tuesday to crack down on a potent semisynthetic opioid found in convenience store gummies, drinks and dietary supplements by putting the substance in the most restricted class of drugs.

FDA moves to restrict 7-hydroxymitragynine, an opioid-like kratom compound now available over the counter

In effort to slow the opioid crisis, federal regulators plan to restrict a kratom compound available in smoke shops over the counter in Spokane and across the country. The Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday their intention to designate 7-hydroxymitragynine as a controlled substance.
