The Hughes fire, which broke out north of Santa Clarita earlier Wednesday, has scorched more than 8,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office has reported 168 vehicle crashes since Friday night due to icy roads. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez warns that conditions may worsen as temperatures drop, potentially delaying emergency response times. Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible.
