Firefighters have made enough progress on a massive wildfire burning in Ocean County for officials to fully reopen both the Garden State Parkway and Route 9 on Wednesday morning. About 25,000 homes and businesses remain without power early Wednesday, Jersey Central Power & Light said.

A fast-moving wildfire in New Jersey expanded to 8,500 acres Tuesday afternoon, causing over 3,000 evacuations and threatening more than 1,300 structures while also closing a portion of the Garden State Parkway in the southern portion of the state.

A wildfire in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area near Barnegat Township, New Jersey, has burned 8,500 acres and is only 10% contained. The Jones Road Wildfire, which erupted Tuesday, prompted the evacuation of thousands of residents and forced the closure of a major stretch of highway as thick smoke drifted across the Jersey Shore.
