The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office charged Shawn Harris, 38, with capital murder this week in the killing of Elijah Ming, a nearly nine-year veteran of the Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials said the killing of Elijah Ming, 34, was another example in the spate of domestic violence calls and shootings this summer. If convicted, Shawn Harris, 38, faces a life sentence or the death penalty.

Across both state lines, law enforcement agencies and public officials are paying tribute to fallen Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy Elijah Ming, who was shot and killed in Kansas City, Kansas, while responding to a call on Saturday.
