While they were unable to save the home, Pasadena firefighters from Station 33 used an ice chest to preserve a family's precious photos.

Fire officials suspect that more than 7,000 homes, business and other structures in Altadena, Sierra Madre and Pasadena have been damaged or destroyed by the wind-driven flames, based on aerial imagery. Crews have not yet officially confirmed the vast majority of that damage.

Many who fled the flames were forced to make devastating choices about their pets. Some, terrified, hid or refused to leave. In other cases, their owners were away from home and could not safely return.

For the crews at Pasadena Fire Station 33, the Eaton Fire will be remembered as one of the hardest firefights of their entire lives. Nicole Comstock reports.
