Rice is accused of killing 18-year-old Anita Knutson in early June 2007. If found guilty, she could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison without parole.

Anita Knutson. Knutson was born on Sept. 22, 1988, in Orange County, Calif., and was adopted five months later by Gordon and Sharon Knutson, according to the Minot Daily News.

Rice, now 37, had been charged with a felony murder in the death of Knutson, an 18-year-old student at Minot State University. Knutson was found dead in the apartment she shared with Rice.
