Immigrants being removed under the Alien Enemies Act get 36 hours to challenge their deportations, the Trump administration said in a court filing on Thursday. Why it matters: This is the first time the administration has publicly responded to a Supreme Court decision requiring immigrants a chance to contest their deportations before they are removed from the country.

In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in Texas' Bluebonnet Detention Center "until further order from this court."

Many of the Venezuelan immigrants who have been removed under the Alien Enemies Act have been sent to a prison in El Salvador known as the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo, or CECOT. Grove said it is unclear whether that was the plan for the folks represented in this case, too.
